Claiming prizes in Georgia
You can claim prizes via a Georgia Lottery retailer, Georgia Lottery Office or by mailing your ticket to the Georgia Lottery Corporation at P.O. Box 56966, Atlanta, GA 30343. You’ll need to fill out a claim form for prizes over $601. The claim period is 180 days from the draw date.
Procedure for Lost and Damaged Tickets
It may be possible to claim a prize on a damaged ticket, depending on its condition, so you should contact a GA Lottery district office or mail it in if you think you are a winner. You need to be able to prove that you own a winning ticket, so if a ticket is lost or stolen you may not be able to claim. Players are therefore urged to sign their tickets.
Taxes due on prizes in Georgia
Any prizes above $5,000 are subject to federal tax, starting at 24 percent, and state tax at a rate of 5.29 percent. The Georgia Lottery also has to report winnings of more than $600, and deduct outstanding child support payments for prizes above $2,500.
