About Cash For Life in Pennsylvania
After Cash for Life launched in New York and New Jersey in 2014, Pennsylvania became the next state to start selling tickets in April 2015. The money that is generated from sales goes towards various benefit programs that are primarily aimed at helping the state’s older citizens. Cash for Life works the same in Pennsylvania as everywhere else, but you can play online for added security and convenience.
How to play Cash For Life in Pennsylvania
Choose five numbers from 1 to 60 and a Cash Ball between 1 and 4, or get a Quick Pick. You can play up to five panels on a playslip. It is possible to enter your numbers in up to 10 consecutive draws, or even set up a subscription so that you never miss a draw if you play online. The cut-off time for ticket sales is 8:45 PM ET.
Claiming prizes in Pennsylvania
You can claim prizes up to $2,500 – the third prize in Cash for Life – from Pennsylvania Lottery retailers. It may be paid by cash, check or money order. For one of the lifetime prizes, you’ll need to visit a local lottery office. You can also mail in winning tickets to the Pennsylvania Lottery, ATTN: Claims, PO Box 8671, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8671. Procedure for Lost and Damaged Tickets
Make sure to sign your ticket and keep it safe, as it is a bearer instrument and as such anyone in possession of it will be deemed to be the rightful owner. If your ticket is stolen, report it to the PA Lottery’s Division of Security on 717-702-8026. For damaged tickets, you should mail them in if you think you are due a prize, but keep in mind that the PA Lottery must be able to complete the validation process before you can be paid out.
Taxes due on prizes in Pennsylvania
All lottery winnings over $5,000 are subject to 3.07 percent state tax and 24 percent federal tax. You will also be issued a W-2G tax form if you win a prize of more than $600, that you can use when filing taxes for the year. Remember that your own tax liability depends on income, deductions, exemptions and possibly other factors, so it is best to speak to a tax expert in the event of a big win.
